Bah, Humbug! A Christmas Street Novella is a romantic novella by Heather Horrocks.
Heather Horrocks is promoted as a USA Today and Amazon Bestselling author. I had never personally heard of her but that sounded good to me so I picked up a book that she had which at the time was on sale. In fact, after downloading the e-book for free, I was able to grab the audiobook version for only $1.99 from Audible.
This book has over 1,700 reviews. So as you might imagine, it’s rather popular. But did the book live up to the hype?
I don’t know. It’s not really a romantic comedy per say, as advertised. When I think “romantic comedy,” I think of something like 50 First Dates or Bridget Jones’s Diary. It’s a comedy with a love story built around it.
This book really had no comedic aspects whatsoever. I mean, to be honest, I can’t think of a single laugh out loud moment in the entire book.
Don’t get me wrong, it’s not a bad book. It’s just not a romantic comedy. And those of you who have read my reviews for long enough know it’s a huge pet peeve of mine when books are mislabeled.
The story is about a single mother with two young children, who has made a living being a sort of modern-day Martha Stewart. After buying their first house she decided to go all out for the holiday episode of her TV show and decorate it for Christmas.
Her next door neighbor is a famous author of children’s mystery books and is struggling to write his next book in the series.
He’s a grumpy, she’s a control freak and somehow, some way, they end up being a match made in heaven.
SPOILER ALERT! Overall I would say the book was nice but then the end totally ruined it. You are reading this great story about how a couple meets and starts to like each other, but they go from that to let’s get married overnight. I am not even kidding. Without going on so much as a single date, and having only met each other just two weeks prior, they get married.
Really? I’m sorry but the ending totally ruined that book for me.
Could they not have gone on at least one freaking date first?

Lexi Anderson is an up-and-coming, Martha Stewart-type TV hostess whose two kids love the Jared Strong adventure novels, which happen to be written by their new neighbor, Kyle Miller.
For the first time in his writing career, Kyle has writer’s block–until he sees the snowman on his lawn and realizes it’s the perfect solution to his plot problem. He digs in and discovers two things: one, his villain’s weapon will fit inside a snowman’s body, and two, this particular snowman was supposed to be the backdrop for Lexi’s next show.
From this improbable beginning comes friendship, but can there be a happy ending for a woman who is afraid to get close again and a man who has shadows from his childhood?
Families join together and hearts are healed as this couple goes walking in a winter wonderland.
